Last week New York City’s Mayor Bloomberg announced that his administration
would dedicate $1.77 billion dollars of federal aid to home and business repair.
The money comes as a much needed response to the damage created by Hurricane
Sandy that hit the East Coast last October.

The proposal, currently named Partial Action Plan A, is meant to provide
homeowners and businesses thrive more support outside of what has already been
given to them by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Plan A
allocates $720 million for housing recovery, $325 million for business recovery and
$400 million for infrastructure repairs.

Mayor Bloomberg also announced that the city hopes to create a rental assistance
program that will help households find affordable apartments throughout the city.
Under the plan, renters will be responsible for costs up to 30 percent of income.
Anything beyond that the city will use the federal aid to make up the difference.
